I received a traffic ticket. What should I do?

You may either contest the citation, make other arrangements with the court, or you may pay the fine.

  1. To contest the citation, you may appear in court at the location, date and time provided on the digital citation. To access the digital citation, scan the QR code on the card issued to you by the law enforcement officer (see “About the QR code…” for more information regarding the QR code).
  2. Contact the court before the “Notice to Appear” date to make arrangements with the court, such as deferred disposition or taking a driving safety course. Contact the court for more information.
  3. Contact the court to pay the fine.
Can I contest or challenge this citation in court?

Yes, you have the right to contest or challenge a citation in court. Specific procedures and requirements vary depending on the jurisdiction and the nature of the citation. Contact the court for information regarding instructions on how to respond to a citation. You may seek legal advice, if necessary.

Are there any options, such as requesting deferred disposition or taking a driving safety course, to mitigate the citation? Do I qualify?

To determine if you qualify for a driving safety course, and if it’s an option for mitigating your citation, you should contact the court directly. They can provide guidance on whether you meet the eligibility criteria.

NOTE : If you request deferred disposition or request a driving safety course, it will be up to the judge to grant it.

How much is the fine? Can I pay the fine immediately?

Contact the court for all payment options or refer to the Courtesy Form provided at the time the traffic citation was issued.

Can I set up a payment plan?

Will this citation impact my driving record?

Yes, paying a fine associated with a traffic ticket will result in a conviction on your state driving record.

Can I request an extension to pay a fine?

Contact the court to make specific arrangements regarding your citation, such as requesting an extension to pay a fine.

What are the potential consequences if I ignore or fail to respond to this citation?

Failure to respond to the citation after the Notice to Appear date may result in a separate charge of Violate Promise to Appear. This separate charge may be filed with additional costs and an arrest warrant.

The citation may also be referred to a collection agency and may be reported to the state’s “Failure to Pay” program – also known as OmniBase .

Are there any alternative options available to resolve the citation, such as community service?

An alternative option, such as Community Service, will be decided by the Judge. You will need to contact the court to submit a plea form, appear in court and speak to the Judge.

How long do I have to respond to or resolve this citation?

You have until the court appearance date noted on your E-Ticket.
